Film.  Animation.  Video on dA??    Yes, let’s start there :eyes:

Tomorrow is THE day!!  September 30th marks the one year anniversary that the doors of film and animation were opened here on the site and we now have 1731 deviants with film submission privileges!

Our unique by invitation only film gallery encompasses a multitude of genres and film mediums from horror and suspense, to drama, comedy, trailers, demo-reels, artistic music videos, tutorials  and more in both film and animation style platforms.  If you’ve happened to miss the fact that we have these gems on the site, allow us to point you in the direction of the Film Gallery for your browsing pleasure!  

Massive thanks to everyone who has contributed to making the film community what it is today through submitting, watching and supporting! We’re looking forward to growing bigger and badder as this next year passes.

Film collab challenges will be launching

    "Vector art has hit the big screen!" Vector art has hit the big screen. A 2006 film (based on a Phillip K. Dick novel) used 50 animators working for 18 months to create vector effects.  A Scanner Darkly, a film about a futuristic world, was done entirely in vector. Each minute of film took 500 hours to complete. In the film world this technique is often referred to as "rotoscoping". So why all this talk of vectors and film? Well deviantartfilm has hit a landmark! Today it turns 1 and is still going as strong as the day it launched. So to help commemorate this occasion we're teaming up with the film crew and hosting a contest. Directors Notes:
  • The point of this challenge is to imitate this films unique style. Your deviations should look like clips straight from the film. Make sure to do some research on the film, get inside the style and technique used to produce it.
  • Deviations must be full vectors and must be posted to the vector gallery.
  • Subject matter can be of anything you choose. Just make sure you have permission to use the image.
  • Note Ikue with your entries.
    • Awards Ceremony:
  •   1st   1 Year subs + deviantART Tshirt of their choice (or $25.00 dev dollars)
  •   2nd   6 month subs + dA button pack
  •   3rd   3 month sub + dA keychain
  • You have 2 weeks to get your entries in. Winners will be announced Oct. 14th
