So
Sta.sh launched last night and like any new feature (or miniscule change) the community is is an uproar. This is the reason why I love deviantART. The opinions of the community are always so varied and the passion behind them can rise to a boil fairly quickly. This may seem like a weird thing to love but I think it shows how much our users actually love dA. You express yourselves so fervently and take things to heart so easily that it can't be seen as anything other than love for this community and the site on the whole.
That said, the journals and comments speaking out against the administration and voicing your opinion is one thing, but the ones causing panic and anger towards a
new feature you've never seen are quite unnecessary. Towards that end, I'd like to dedicate this journal to a sort of FAQ on Sta.sh and the new features launched yesterday. If you have questions or concerns about these new features please feel free to leave a comment below and I will address them in the journal so any other visitors can benefit from the questions raised.
While I wait for some questions, please take a moment to read over some of the FAQ's we've come up with on the subject:
FAQ #440: What is Sta.sh?FAQ #441: How do I upload to my Sta.sh?FAQ #442: What is the storage limit of Sta.sh?FAQ #443: What happens when I reach the storage limit for Sta.sh?FAQ #444: What happens to my Sta.sh items when my subscription runs out?FAQ #445: Can I upload anything to Sta.sh?FAQ #446: Why can't I drag & drop files to my Sta.sh like other users?Where is my journal mood in sta.sh writer?
If you visit Sta.sh and use writer to compose a journal it will not automatically provide the area to put your mood and thoughts. If you know you are going to write a journal you can hover over the submit menu at the top then choose "write a journal" and these options will be available for you.
I've been trying to find a decent overview of the new system, but I've only found a pile of rants with no explanations at all.
Thank you.
And Ctrl E doesn't work. I get errors on saving.
My journals are public, yes, but they were relevant to my watchers and visitors, not the whole DA community. Like the poor guy with the potato journal. When I go to news I want to find more important stuff, like features, contests, editorials, etc... Not potatoes, baww, i'm leaving DA or some popular artists' ingrown toenails... I dunno of you listen at all, but this is my two cents...
I prefer having the search this way - it means you can look for contests and stuff that's been posted as journal OR news, instead of having to only search the news ones.
But what I think people are mostly upset about is not Sta.sh itself, but the merge of news and journals. A change I don't like myself to be honest. I get the idea behind submitting everything from the same point and it's a good idea, but journals showing on the news page is just silly.
I think it's unfair to generalize the community uproar as angst over just a new feature. I have been using stash since it was released to beta testers, and I absolutely love it. In fact, I spoke with $Heidi at a devmeet about how much I love it. I used it for everything it was meant for during beta testing.
While I agree that changes need to happen to keep dA on the cutting edge, and I, as a coder, can imagine the work it took to create stash, I feel like there was seriously no need to clump journals and news all together and totally jack the system up.
So I guess many people aren't as upset with stash as they are with a massive change accompanying it. Personally, I don't ever want to post news articles again because I feel so disheartened with the news system that I think it's simply unnoticed and futile now.
I know my opinion probably doesn't matter as much as I'd like to hope, but I really don't see the need for anything that happened to news or journals. I still respect the work you all do, I just...c
