Brothers and sisters, let me set the scene

for a nightmarish creature so foul & obscene

that penning this poem makes me want to scream,

but the timing is perfect —- for it's Halloween.

So, if we must, let's just start at the top

of his oversized skull with his unruly mop

of so-called hair the no-color of dust

on a fissured scalp peeling & leaking out pus.

His locks wind 'round horns, they're teeming with germs,

and look more like the husks of a million dead worms.

You've heard of bats in the belfry?

Well, it's not just a phrase;

small ones nest in his curls to hide from the sun's rays.

One more word on his noggin, for this must be said:

it's ten times the girth of a normal-sized head.

And if I haven't yet made the case for distaste,

let's move to the horror this thing calls a face.

rotting away

Skin's the color of pumpkins dying a slow death

or a failing sun breathing its very last breath.

Brows like hairy slugs perched on orangey dough

crown flat yellow eyes peeking out just below.

Those beady orbs nestled in pouches and folds

of flesh home to all sorts of fungus and molds.

I suppose that's a nose next up on the list,

but it's rotting & roaches peer out through the slits.

Lips: scaly twin creatures all coated in muck,

like two lizards who crawled in some mud and got stuck.

Yes, his mouth is a marvel of nature's mistakes.

He has not one tongue —- he has twelve made of snakes.

Oh, that slithering nest-hole just can't resist

striking at themselves as they writhe and they hiss.

And it's best if we speak even less of his teeth,

but they're green as the serpents who sleep underneath.

Now, we've seen enough here, so we shall begin

to speak of the mess under his bulbous chin.

Decay of the Heart

And what appears next is not what you'd expect,

but two giant flaps like his neck... ate his neck.

His dermis is saggy, his guts are all stored

in a carcass that's shaped like some mutated gourd.

Yet he wears tailored suits, expensive and fine

that cling to limbs clunky and elephantine.

At the end of each arm is a claw like a crab.

The horrid appendages pinch and they grab.

He keeps them well sharpened and shined to a sheen,

but they are so small they can hardly be seen.

This would be almost a humorous twist,

if only this beast didn't really exist.

His mountainous legs suffer from the same flaws,

capped off in feet as tiny as his claws.

His whole frame reeks of sulfur.

He's covered in grime.

He leaves a lingering trail of malodorous slime.

This journey, I know's been an unpleasant one.

Dear reader, hang in there. We are almost done.

Warhammer Fantasy/40k - Great Unclean One

He lives in the depths of an ill-smelling bog,

shrouded at all times in a venomous fog.

Lit by giant mushrooms

with an unearthly glow,

a sick, swampy kingdom where twisted things grow.

A pestilent monarch, he squats on his throne;

sips gallons of blood from a goblet of bone.

His subjects are legion, they flock to his side;

all manner of ghouls that the heart can't abide.

There's a pale hateful zombie,

who's bedecked in flies,

and humanoid shape that has fanged mouths for eyes.

There's a three-headed harpy who screams at the sun

and a man-eating frog that weighs nearly a ton.

One could spend forever

trying to describe

the monsters that make up his hideous tribe.

But our time draws to a close,

my stalwart friends.

Lock your doors, say your prayers —-

for this is THE END.

Irma has come and gone and for the most part, we're ok. Sadly a lot of the southern islands were hit pretty bad, but the central/northern islands only experienced cat1/tropical storm type weather. We're still watching Jose, it looks like he'll make a loop and possibly head our way later this week, but for now, it's back to work for me.

Unfortunately, after us, Irma set her eyes on Florida. Regrettably, they were hit pretty hard. I've got friends and family over there and it was so scary not to be able to help. Thankfully Irma has pretty much died off, she lost hurricane status in the wee hours of the mornings. A lot of folks were impacted terribly and I can only hope for the best. If you know anyone in Florida reach out to them to make sure they're okay. If you're there now, please stay safe, and I hope for a speedy recovery. <3

Seems to be that time of year again. We're currently preparing for Irma to strike and I wanted to warn everyone that I may be MIA for a few days next week. We're not supposed to be hit until the weekend but just in case I can't connect before then consider this a heads up.

Suffice it to say the Help Desk may be a bit slower to respond. The rest of the team will do their best to help with any fires but juggling all sections at once is a daunting task. I hope you can forgive us if we fall behind. Rest assured that all tickets will be responded to just as soon as we're able. We greatly appreciate your patience during this time.

Best of luck to everyone in the way of this beast. I'll see you on the other side.

Tattoo Time!

I'm heading to Orlando for a few days. I can't wait to see shuttermonkey again! I'll be stateside for a week or so. My tattoo appointment is on Tuesday so I figured I'll take Monday and Tuesday off to play catch up and get the tattoo. I'll show pictures when it's done! in the mean time, you may expect some slight delays in service for General and Bug related inquiries while I'm off. I promise things will settle back down in the days that follow.

Wild Thing

The Nintendo #Switch and #Zelda Breath of the Wild have been out now for nearly a month. This weekend I'll finally get my hands on it! I've been trying my best to hide from the internet so as to avoid spoilers… It's been terribly hard as you can imagine seeing as I work online… Some things have been leaked that I can't help but see… stupid youtube thumbnails! To help cheer me up I've been falling down rabbit holes on DeviantArt finding amazing #botw inspired artworks by some freakishly talented artists. I managed to physically touch a Switch thanks to damphyr a couple of weeks ago and made a righteous fool of myself playing #12Switch at a small retreat-type-dealy we had with the entire DeviantArt and Wix teams. It's an amazing piece of hardware and I can't wait to have my very own! It killed me knowing that I  owned it but had no way of getting to it and using it on my 20+ hour flights to/from Israel… But good things come to those who wait, right? It'll be mine soon enough! I can't wait to just get lost in Hyrule.

Holy Land

Speaking of my first hand experience with the Switch… You read that right, I was in Israel! It was such an amazing experience. We all got to meet our new coworkers from the other side of the globe. The entire experience was surreal. Wix and DeviantArt are a perfect fit and experiencing that first hand was a mind blowing adventure. Meeting and working with these people first hand was so uplifting. I can't wait to see where our future lies. Honestly, the worst thing I can say about the experience was the travel. It started with a 4 hours flight from here to New York where I had a 6 hour layover and finally a 11 hour plane right to Israel. On the way back it was 12 hours to New York, a 3 hour layover and another 4 hours back home. Having my Switch would have made me so happy on such a long trip, but the entire time I was actually there I don't think I would have had time to even touch the thing. At least not like I want to. We were bouncing around in meetings and actually working! Guys! Working with coworkers! Seeing and hugging aunjuli and damphyr, 2 amazing ladies I work with on a daily basis, not to mention moonbeam13 and so many others I haven't even seen in 5 years! Just blew my mind! Working from home you forget how awesome human interaction is with your colleagues. I just had the best time. If you're interested I've been posting some photos on Instagram. They're not really amazing so I decided against sharing here, but I may reconsider. Anyway, it was just good friends, good food, good atmosphere. Things are gonna be good overall and hopefully soon. Thanks for sticking in there with us, it was well worth it I promise!

Pop a Mint!

All that Wild Breath is about to hit ya! I've been waitin for this day for 4 years… ever since they hinted at a new Zelda at E3 back in 2013. I absolutely love Zelda. It's one of the main reasons I invested in a Wii U. Sure there were other amazing games that held my attention, but I neeeeed Zelda. I crave Zelda. And this new interpretation is just blowing my mind. I sadly can't play it yet… I've ordered it and it's on its way to shuttermonkey, where it will stay until I can visit him in April… I've waiting 4 years, what's another month? /Silently weeps/

Switching gears

As mentioned, Zelda is one of the main reasons I invested in the Wii U, but I of course couldn't pass up upgrading to the Switch! I very nearly bought Zelda for Wii U since I knew I wouldn't be able to play it for another month, but I couldn't bring myself to spend the extra cash after buying the new system and a few accessories. I figured I might as well get the enhanced experience anyway. That said, what do you guys think of the Switch itself? I'm a Nintendo fan-boy, always have been, always will me. They can make mistakes (and certainly have), but I grew up on Nintendo and it just speaks to me on an almost spiritual level. I guess I'm not a "hard-core gamer" because of it but that's fine by me.

The hardware to me is pretty amazing. A full console on a portable device. Sure it has it's drawbacks, battery life for instance, but I think if Nintendo plays their cards right they can certainly bridget that gap between home console and portable smart devices. If they're smart they can release a new stand alone tablet of the Switch in a couple of years as an upgrade with all the new features and tech made available in that time. Similar to how Apple updates their iPads every couple of years. Rather than wait 5+ years between full console releases. It may offer them the opportunity to catch up to the rest of the industry, "power-wise" I mean. I don't think power makes a console; I really don't need another war shooter with hyper realistic textures. To me games are about stories or puzzles, or experience not graphics or how many pixels are being pushed. Don't get me wrong, that stuff certainly helps, but with the right artstyle those things can be overlooked. I mean, look at shovel knight! That game is unbelievably fun and engaging and it doesn't rely on the ability to see pores on someones face as you teabag them in an online match.

Of course, all of that is just wishful thinking. I hope they consider it, but who knows… I can't wait to get my hands on it either way. People are complaining about the launch lineup being somewhat dry… and to that I think… well, I sorta think this is a "soft launch". Not literally mind you, just it sorta feels that way. Game consoles usually launch near the holiday season to capitalise on the Christmas rush. Everyone wants the new pretty under the tree, or menorah, or whatever! Yet they're releasing it at the beginning of the year. Yes, they are marketing the hell out of it, but I think that's so that they can make sure that folks get the core concept of it. After the Wii U fiasco where folks just thought it was a new controller with a screen for their old Wii and didn't offer any real benefits, they want… not they neeeeed to make sure it stands out and can hold its own. A March launch offers them the opportunity to release the Switch without having to battle for the spotlight with the other consoles and let's Nintendo just be Nintendo. It gets the hard core fans out of the way, who will undoubtedly adopt early and allows them to get a feel for how the system is doing on the market affording them a year's worth of research before the big sale time. Sure games are somewhat sparse now, but I think that's a good thing. You can't possibly play 20+ new games at once. Have a heavy hitter (and by all the reviews Zelda is shaping up to be GOTY already) and then slowly trickle out other amazing games to keep fans interested until your next major IP release. Then by the end of the year those you didn't adopt early will have a much larger list of titles to chose from, and if Nintendo feels that figures are still to high for the console itself or the accessories based on the feedback they gathered they can possibly even offer discounts and sales or bundles to entice more folks. All this year long hype will only ensure that they get a second wave of mass adoption to the new console and by then they'll have a solid foundation to fall back on.

Of course I'm just rambling now… I just cannot wait to get my hands on the system in April! I may have to turn off social media until then!

Tattoo

Speaking of April… I'm getting a new tattoo! I've been wanting one for years. The last one I got was way back in 2002, nearly 15 years ago and I've been aching for new ink since then. I've had this vision of what I wanted for forever but have never been able to find a close enough artist to accomplish it. I finally found one and as luck would have it he works out of a shop near where shuttermonkey lives! He's so good he's booked 6+ months in advance. I actually made the appointment last year after I saw he had some cancelations and managed to grab a spot. When I originally booked the appointment I thought I'd get the tattoo I wanted for so many years, an abstract sleeve up watercolour paint splashes and brushstrokes, I wanted him to just be creative and mark me however he wanted. But over the years I toyed with the idea of a fandom sleeve. I didn't know if I could do that… show my love for my favourites shows and games and whatnot by adding them to my arm permanently, but after some encouragement and pure excitement from friends I think I'm finally ready to start it. I'm not more excited for that than I've been for the abstract sleeve I've wanted all along. So come April I'm starting my fandom sleeve. I cannot wait! I'll give you 3 guesses as to what the first character will be on my fandom arm. Shouldn't be hard! XD
