The only way to do great work is to love what you do. -Steve Jobs

Flying Time

I guess the old adage is true. Time really does fly when you're having fun. This past Sunday marked my 5-year work Anniversary with DeviantArt. It's been an exciting rollercoaster of events. So much has changed and grown since I joined the staff. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone. It's been a wild ride and I can't wait to keep stepping into the unknown with all of you.

In the brief time I've been in an official capacity to help all of you I've solved well over 96k helpdesk tickets through zendesk. I was hoping to hit the 100k mark by my anniversary, but you guys seem to have everything under control! I guess that's a good thing… I suppose if I were to try and add the couple hundred tickets I solved through our old helpdesk system whilst I was early on in my training Not to mention the notes and comments I receive  I may be closer to that goal but I'm not gonna split hairs.  It's been an absolute blessing helping all of you these past few years. I hope in the most part it was as good for you as it was for me!

Rabbit Hole

The big reveal is finally among us. You've been down the rabbit hole and now it's time to take a peek through the looking glass at the future of DeviantArt.

It's been such an honour being a part of this amazing experience. I've been through some amazing projects during my time on staff and experienced many from my time as a member but none of them can compare to this. I hope you all take a moment to read over Our Story and soak it all in. It's because of you, the community, that we are who we are today. It's because of you that this change is even possible. And believe me… there is much more in store for the future!

Your Story

You clicked it, you shared it, you hypothesized on it. What do you think of it? I know a few of you got it dead on and others came very close. What do you think of the rebrand? How does it fit in with your DeviantArt story? Are you excited for the launch of the official DeviantArt mobile app on Dec 10th? Share in the comments below or on the announcement article! I can't wait to see the communities reaction.

I Came

Sat Nov 29, 2014, 1:03 PM

This weekend was jam-packed full of awesome battles and collectable fun!

Returning Champs!

With so many returning champions last Friday it's no wonder I seemed to have skipped over the entire weekend. We saw both the release of the long anticipated #SmashBros reboot for the #WiiU and the release of #Pokemon #ORAS remake done in the X & Y engine. I can't decide which to play!

Smash Bros

With only one 3DS between both shuttermonkey and myself that decision was pretty much made for me. While Cory collected his favourite pocket monsters I took the opportunity to refine my Smash skills. The next day I had a little get together with my brothers and we played Smash for hours! It was so fun. I remember waking up on the weekends and battling it out in various games with my siblings and this was such a great sense of nostalgia. 8 Player Smash is such an amazing addition to this game. We pitted the 4 of us against 4 terribly hard CPU's and had a blast getting our butts kicked and kicking a bit ourselves. I also got a couple of #amiibo to kick off my collection. Pikachu and Mario to start and hope to gain a few more as I'm able.

I've slowly been catching up in Pokemon while Cory has been at work the past few days but I've got a ways to go yet. Just enjoying the ride really. It's been so long since I've played the original that this feels like a completely new experience. I am absolutely loving the Dex Nav app in the game. Knowing what other pokémon are in the area that I haven't caught yet really is a blessing. I find myself hating to move to a new route until I've got everything from that area! It's really helping me play more. Can't wait to see what other features are in store.

With the long Thanksgiving weekend fast approaching I can't wait to do it all over again and play games 'til my eyes bleed!  Who's with me?

What have you guys been playing lately?

New York

Our experience, in a word, was Phenomenal. We had the absolute best time ever in New York. Our hotel was perfect, the experiences were outstanding, we didn't want to leave!

Next time we won't be bogged down with all the tourist stuff so we can actually venture out and hook up with people! We honestly didn't know where the time had gone. It just flew by. There was so much to do and to see we were going nonstop. Luckily we got all of the tourist trap spots out of the way this go round. It was such a bummer to wait in line for so long. We seriously spent more time on lines waiting to get into the attractions than we actually spent viewing the attraction itself. We were lucky enough to save a few bucks via a CityPass ticket book but man, I hope to never stand in another line again… Really the only main attraction we missed was the top of the rock. I am still pissed with myself for losing those tickets. There is always a next time though!

After New York we returned to put the final touches on our Halloween Birthday party for shuttermonkey. He turned turned 30! So naturally we have to celebrate in style. There was a lot of food (way too much food, anyone want some?) a lot of fun, and a lot of crazy costumes! It was a blast. Never again will I be planning such a large affair… It's way too hectic and stressful. Even now I still feel like I forgot something! but anyway, if you haven't already, go glomp the monkey and congratulate him on 30 years of taking up space on this rock we call a home.

Now it's back to work… bear with me while I play catch up. :B

Did I miss anything important while I was away?

How did you guys spend the last couple of weeks. Have any interesting halloween stories to share? What's the haps?!

It's been quite some time since I've written a journal so I thought I'd give a little update.

Yup… yet again shuttermonkey and I have moved. It's only been a little over a year since we last moved but when this new place presented itself we couldn't say no. We're not too far from our old place, actually it's really only about 2 blocks away, but it's inside a fairly nice neighbourhood while our old place was just outside. We feel like part of the elite now. Unfortunately it's less bedrooms than we had before, however, the space difference is massive so it more than makes up for it. The new place is double the size of our old place. It's so welcome especially for the cats. They've got so much more space to roam and run around. One of the biggest draws of this new place is that it's a favour for a friend of the family so he gave us an amazing deal on the rent. Which happens to include electricity so we can run the central air all day without worry! I no longer have to melt while I work from home during the day. It's so amazing. In all we're saving about an extra 400-500 a month. Which bring me to my next update!

Cory and I are both turning 30 this year (I can't believe we're both this old), and November marks our 15 year anniversary, Anyway… because we're able to save some extra money and because such big milestones don't come along all that often we're gonna celebrate while we can. So we're heading to #NewYork! It's been a dream of ours to go there and we're finally making it a reality. We're beyond excited! We have so many things to do I just hope we can get most of them done in 8 days we're gonna be there. I doubt we'll get everything done, but we know for certain this wont be our only trip there! You guys have any ideas of things we need to check out?

Segwaying right into our next topic! Cory is born on Halloween and it's both our favourite time of the year! We're so looking forward to a spooky time in New York but also we're throwing a costume bash after we get back. I can't wait to start watching all my favourite spooky movies we save up every year for this time. Hope you guys have awesome plans too!

Thanks for playing along!

For 24 brief hours Everyone has a Premium Membership! That means, no ads, fancy stats and so much more! My favourite of these (in case you couldn't tell by my gallery) is Journals Skins!

I just love designing and coding! I use it as an expression of my artistic ability and for a brief shining moment everyone gets to use them! It's awesome.  I love it so much I wanna extend one lucky users Premium Membership from a day to a month!

What do I have to do?

All you've got to do is create a journal using one of my Free Journal Skins and tell me why you like it!

Feature and artist, vent a frustration, inform the world of your next  big art piece, anything you like! Just make sure you write a small paragraph telling me why it is you like that particular skin so much and send me a link to the journal so I can check it out.

The winner will receive a one month premium membership and a nice lil feature from me. :aww:

Enjoy your Free Premium Memberships! :la:

How'd you guys like this years April fools joke? It was pretty tame compared to past holidays but still pretty fun I think!

The staff were asked to help populate the thought drawings pool and naturally I took a crack at it. Could you tell which ones were mine? Did any of you happen to get one that I made? I've seen quite a few of the ones I made make it to the most popular view which is mind blowing. I've never been there with my own art. XD It's kinda flattering.

Type Fiasco: Moving

Sat Mar 1, 2014, 5:23 AM

We've moved!

So I screwed the pooch on this one… It appears the name TypeFight is already taken by another organization and they contacted me asking to resolve the confusion. I should have done my due diligence and researched the project a bit more but in my excitement I got carried away and pushed forward blindly. My Apologies

To that end I will be rebuilding the group on a new name. No longer will it be TypeFight, from henceforth you can find us at TypeBattle. All of the links and logos have been updated to reflect this new change. The journals and polls will be unaffected so if you have them faved or bookmarked you wont need to update your links. The old group will remain open for the next day or so while I migrate our early entrance fighters to the new group. In the mean time, I ask that all spectators please visit the new group and add that to your watchlist so you are kept up to date on the new battles.

Thanks for your understanding.

Bahamian Pikachu In London

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 12, 2013, 1:24 PM
Do I know any deviants in London, Cardiff, or near Newcastle? If so I'd love to meet you!

I've mentioned before but in case you've missed it, my family and I are visiting London for 2 weeks in July. Cory and I are travelling to meet some friends near Cardiff and Newcastle and so I thought I'd check on here to see if any of you guys would be free!

As it stands we're hoping to be in Cardiff on the 8th of July and be there pretty much all day. Then on the 10th of July we'll be in Newcastle all day as well. We'll be staying in London so any time between the 11th and the 13th we should be free. If anyone in those areas wants to meet up please let me know! I'm really excited about this trip and would be thrilled to meet as many UK folks as I can.

Connect With Me!

  • Town: EUReKA
  • Name: Carter
  • Code: 0559-6910-6155

There's a new Mayor in town!

I downloaded my copy of New Leaf shortly after it's digital release and I'm already in love! If you have a Nintendo 3DS and a copy of AC:NL Please add me as a friend so we can trade and all that fun stuff! You can find my information at the top of the journal by hovering anywhere on the journal itself.

Unfortunately it was after midnight here so once downloaded I couldn't really do much since all the businesses were closed and the towns folk were asleep. I'm sure I could try time travelling like in earlier versions of the game but I don't want to start getting weeds already! :U

My town's name is "EUReKA", which it has been ever since the original Gamecube version. One of my favourite TV shows at the time was Eureka which came on the (then) SciFi channel and was about a cute little town full of scientists and a new Sheriff that had to clean up their weekly fiascos. I thought it was fitting at the time and ever since all of my towns across the various incarnations of the game were named after that show. Anyway, my town has Circle Grass which is super happy about! This should mean that I get Star Snow when winter comes in the game. My town fruit is the Pear. And my little city person has blue eyes and is wearing a pink shirt with kitty paw prints, and pink/white stripped socks! It's like the game knows me. o.o

Anyway… I'm gonna try take a nap. I hope to see you guys on the 3DS later! If you want, I encourage you to install this journal skin and write up a little bit about your town as well. Be sure to link to your journal in the comments below so I can check it out and add you!

Happy Mayoring!

p.s. If you're wondering how to take a screenshot, simply press the L & R trigger buttons on the 3DS at the same time and a screengrab will be saved to your camera roll automatically. You can then visit "" in the 3DS web browser and upload to Tumblr or Twitter. Or you can plug in your memory card to your computer and manually transfer the image over to your harddrive and upload it to wherever you want.

Across the pond

Journal Entry: Tue May 21, 2013, 7:34 AM
In a little over a month I'll be taking my first vacation in 4 years. I've hinted at it in past journals but it's so close I can almost taste it! My older brother is getting hitched and the family is flying out for the big to-do!

If you haven't already guessed by the title, the wedding is in Jolly olde England. I know a lot of my dA friends are from across the pond and I have plans to meet up with a few of you, if time allows, but I was wondering how many others of you are there? Do you have any recommendations for me while I'm there? I visited once when I was like 12, and stayed for a month but I was under the guard of my Aunt and Uncle and had to do as they wished. I had an awesome time, but didn't get to explore much of the city itself. I'm looking for some insight so if you have any, please step forward! We've already got all the major touristy spots on our itinerary, Tower bridge, Big Ben, the London Eye, Trafalgar Square, DOCTOR WHO EXPERIENCE!!!… Are there any you would recommend or places you wish you could go yourself?

30 days later

Journal Entry: Wed May 8, 2013, 6:37 AM
Wow, I can't believe it's been a month since I've written a journal! That means it's been a little over a month since we've been in the new place and it's time to pay rent soon. o.o

Done so much in this last month as well. Made a new logo for myself. Redesigned my social links site. Wrote a number of tutorials that will be making their way online eventually. Built some furniture for the apartment. Computer crashed, almost worried myself sick stressing over affording a new one. We also got a new kitty… It's all moving quite quickly. I'm just so happy that the place is finally starting to feel like home. Artwork on the walls and animals really helps cement that feeling of home.

Our new kitty is named Harleen (Harleen Quinzel to be exact) and she's another Tortoiseshell like Gallifrey. When we rescued her from the local humane society she was  little over 1 years old and had already had kittens, poor thing. When we brought her home Gallifrey was a bit skeptical but they didn't really fight. The next day we noticed that Harleen was seemingly unhappy and had been spraying the walls. We thought it strange since the humane society told us she had been spayed. A few days past and we started to accept the fact that maybe she was just one of "those" types of cats and bunkered down for the long haul. That's when we noticed she started displaying other signs of a cat in heat. Worried there may be something wrong we took her to the vet only to discover that she had in fact not been spayed.  So yay… We've got to put up with that for another 2 weeks before we can take her to cut out her lady parts. Hopefully it'll put a stop to the spraying.

Other than that… nothing else has really happened. What have you lot been up to in the past month? Anything interesting you'd like to share with the class?

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 8, 2013, 11:35 AM
We finally did it! We've moved in to the new place. The process took forever with a lot of hurdles to climb but we're finally here. Such a good feeling to be in your own space with your own rules and your own stuff!

Can't wait for this place to start feeling like home.

Hope you lot are alright!
